Quick Verdict
Ugly story is a gripping, uncomfortable, and highly polarizing psychological thriller that plays out like a slow-motion car crash. If you have a soft spot for intense character studies about toxic love and messy drama, you will be utterly hooked. If you are looking for a cozy date-night romance, steer clear-this one gets very dark, very fast.
Story
The film centers on Karthik (Nandu Vijay Krishna), a man who simply cannot accept the word "no." He is hopelessly, obsessively, and increasingly terrifyingly in love with Neha (Avika Gor). The glaring issue? Neha is completely in love with Goutham (Ravi Teja Mahadasyam).
What begins as a familiar "unrequited love" drama quickly morphs into something far more sinister. Unable to cope with the reality of Neha’s rejection, Karthik begins a rapid descent into a fractured psychological state. As his behavior escalates from creepy to downright dangerous, Neha’s support system-including her protective Uncle (Shivaji Raja) and her concerned Friend (Alka Rathod)-try to step in. However, Karthik's obsession knows no bounds, eventually drawing the attention of a stern Police Officer (Pragya Nayan Sinha) as his actions threaten to destroy everyone in his wake.
Review
Director L. Pranava Swaroop pulls off a fascinating bait-and-switch here. The first act of Ugly story plays out with the warm, sun-drenched aesthetics of a traditional romance, making you almost sympathize with Karthik’s heartbreak. But as the minutes tick by, the shadows grow longer, the music turns colder, and the film morphs into an unsettling thriller.
Nandu Vijay Krishna is the absolute standout here. He portrays Karthik with a twitchy, manic energy that makes your skin crawl. You can practically see the wires short-circuiting in his brain as his rejection curdles into dangerous entitlement. Opposite him, Avika Gor is fantastic as Neha. She grounds the film, portraying a woman who goes from mildly annoyed to genuinely terrified as she realizes her stalker isn't going to just fade away. The contrast between Neha's warm relationship with Goutham and the icy dread of Karthik’s presence creates a genuinely palpable tension.

At 123 minutes, the film does suffer from some mid-tempo sag. There are only so many times we can watch Karthik stare intensely at his phone or linger in the background before the plot needs to move forward. However, the third act more than makes up for the pacing issues, delivering a claustrophobic, high-stakes climax that will have you chewing your fingernails.
"The wild swing between its 9.3 IMDb score and a 4/10 TMDb rating proves 'Ugly story' is the most polarizing digital-age thriller of the summer." - MovieBuzz Analytics
