Let’s be completely honest: adapting a beloved romance property is a high-wire act. Devotees of the genre are notoriously protective of their favorite couples, and one wrong casting choice can sink a project before the pilot even airs. Thankfully, Off Campus hits a home run-or rather, scores a beautiful top-shelf goal-with its casting.
Ella Bright is a revelation as Hannah Wells. She portrays Hannah not just as a witty foil to a jock, but as a deeply layered young woman carrying real, heavy trauma with quiet strength. Opposite her, Belmont Cameli plays Garrett Graham with the perfect blend of swaggering athletic confidence and sweet, "golden retriever boyfriend" sincerity. The banter between them crackles with a rare, natural rhythm. You can practically feel the heat radiating off the screen during their negotiation scenes, and their transition from reluctant allies to genuine confidants is beautifully paced.
What prevents Off Campus from feeling like just another run-of-the-mill soap opera is how seriously it takes its characters' emotional baggage. It treats Hannah and Garrett's past struggles with dignity and depth, allowing the dramatic moments to breathe amid the fun, fast-paced college high jinks.
The supporting cast also deserves their flowers. Antonio Cipriano brings a wonderful, boyish charm to Logan, while Stephen Kalyn’s Dean and Jalen Thomas Brooks’ Tucker ground the hockey house dynamics in genuine male friendship. Mika Abdalla's Allie is a bright spark of energy who instantly wins you over. Their collective chemistry makes Briar University feel like a place you’d actually want to hang out in, even if the drama levels are constantly dialed up to eleven.
If there’s any critique to be made, it’s that with an ensemble this attractive and interesting, some of the supporting characters' subplots feel slightly rushed. We want more of the boys' locker room camaraderie and more of Allie's personal journey. However, as a web series, the tight focus on Hannah and Garrett’s central arc keeps the narrative engine humming beautifully without getting bogged down in unnecessary filler.
